Strike 2 to living vicariously
Since Elliott is now capable of at least some form of movement, generally a series of rolls in no particular direction, and has shown a modicum of interest in trying to crawl, I experimented today. I put him on his blanket and, a few feet in front of him, I placed four toys. A football, a stuffed monkey, a cloth book and the holder for his set of plastic rings. I was curious which object he would gravitate toward and was convinced that, instead of simply grabbing the one closest to him or the most brightly colored object, it would provide an early window into his soul. Sort of like the way they used to find the successor to the Dalai Lama.

Elliott eventually wiggled his way toward the assortment with me quietly chanting "Football, come on football" in the background. Of course the first thing he did was violently bat the football away about 20 feet across the floor and then moved the ring holder out of the way as well which provided some consolation considering that it is somewhat phallic in nature and, in the past, Elliott has been, shall we say, enthusiastic with it. He then grabbed the book and was content with it for the next 15 minutes. Of course Shelbi was thrilled with the results.
Great, so we're going to have THAT kid. I immediately envisioned our March Madness trip 10 years down the road with me being forced to watch the games with the mute button on so as not to disturb their reading. Shelbi is not helping in my attempts at raising an athlete. I came home today to find her dancing with Elliott while belting out show tunes. And, of course, he was loving every minute of it.
Football = Loves Sports. Ring holder = Loves Toys/Games (umm... right?).
Book = Loves Books. Monkey = ??? I hadn't thought that through. Loves animals?
Nature?

Grandma is thrilled too!

I read the football thing differently. I think it shows he has a good arm for a 6/7-month old.
